Tutorial 3: Light Painting and Scary Faces!

At the last meeting, photo club had a small turnout, yet tons of fun!

We toyed around with glowsticks and shutter speeds in the dark. We were able to outline people and draw images in mid air, while capturing it on camera!! We also did something we some face distortion, using two flashes on either sides of the person, which created an eerie two-sided face.

We will hopefully be doing another meeting on light painting, so if you missed out, don't fret! There's always more fun to come!

2nd Event: State Fair Day!

I know this post is a little late, but hey, we're all busy! ;)

The club went to the State Fair toward the end of October! It was a small group, but it was still a blast. And the grub... oh, the fried deliciousness...

Here's a few pictures:

1st Event: Zoo Day!

We did indeed have our 2nd tutorial for the semester. At our last meeting we discussed photography basics, covering things like aperture, f-stops, and shutter speed, along with camera settings and the rule of thirds. However, all of this was a rather long discussion, so I'm afraid we won't be posting this on our blog. Some good ol' googling may help you out with any questions though! :)

And of course, you can always ask us questions at our next meetings.

HOWEVER, the club DID go to the Fort Worth Zoo, and we WILL update about THAT! After meeting up on campus, we carpooled on over to Fort Worth. Here are some pictures from the event:

Join us next time! :)

Our next meeting is tomorrow night at 8pm. If the weather permits, we'll be meeting in the art parking lot and car pooling over to the park to practice with night shots!
If it's raining, we'll stick to our normal classroom and play with lightpainting! Fun!

This Saturday the club will be heading to the state fair! Check out details here.

Tutorial 1: Bokeh Shape Filters

Despite the rain, we still had a fantastic turn-out at our second meeting! We learned a bit about bokeh and how to make our own shape filters!

Bokeh refers to the æsthetic quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field. This basically means you can have a subject in focus with the background blurry.

Bokeh shape filters alter the shape of out of focus lights. It's much easier to show than to explain, so here are some images from the meeting!

If you'd like to try this out for yourself, there's a great tutorial here.

At our next meeting, we'll be covering the basics of photography. F-stops, ISO, aperture... all that jazz! If you're new to photography, this is the meeting for you! If you're not.. it's a great way to refresh your memory! We hope to see you there!

Catchin' up on all that fancy stuff.

A new year, a new blog.

The Photography Club has gotten off to a great start this semester! We've had a great turn-out for our first two meetings, and I can only hope it gets better from here!

We have some awesome officers this semester:
President: Emily Schwarting
Vice President: David Wixom
Secretaries: Angela Ardery and Taryn Walker
Treasurer: Angel Mitchell
Event Coordinator: Amanda Potter
Public Relations: Lauren Bunte

Our adviser is still the beautiful Tania Khalaf, a RTVF professor.

Unless announced otherwise, meetings are held every other Wednesday at 8pm in the Art Building, Room 234.
